Description

An attractive pair of antique brass and leather-covered field binoculars, believed to date from the late Victorian or Edwardian period, approximately 1890–1920.

These traditional Galilean-style binoculars feature brass fittings, dark leather-covered barrels, black metal eyepieces and a central focusing mechanism.

The exposed brass bridges and focusing column have developed an attractive aged patina, contrasting with the dark leather covering and black eyepiece fittings.

No manufacturer’s name or country of origin markings have been found. The binoculars are thought to be of European manufacture, possibly British, French or German.

Condition:

The lenses are clean and intact, with no visible damage. The central focusing mechanism operates correctly.

Cosmetically, the binoculars are in good antique condition, showing age-related wear, rubbing, scratches and some deterioration to the leather covering. The brass fittings show natural tarnishing and patina consistent with their age.
