Description

For sale is a pair of vintage Barr & Stroud C.F.15 7×50 binoculars, marked Barr & Stroud, Glasgow & London, 7x, C.F.15, A.P. No. 1900, with serial number 6575.

These are early British naval-style binoculars, produced by Barr & Stroud for Admiralty use. The C.F.15 7×50 model was developed in the late 1920s and selected in 1931 as the Admiralty’s “Binocular, Prismatic for Night Use, Pattern 1900”, which explains the A.P. No. 1900 marking. Barr & Stroud serial numbers were allocated in chronological order, so this lower serial number 6575 is most likely circa 1931, possibly late 1930/early 1931.

The optics are intact and clean, and the binoculars achieve very clear and sharp images for their age. The individual eyepiece focusing mechanisms work well.

Cosmetically, the binoculars show heavy age-related wear, including paint loss, rubbing, scuffs, scratches and worn/missing areas to the textured body covering, especially on the barrels. The leather neck strap is attached but aged and worn.
