Description
Antique French opera glasses / compact binoculars, complete with original fitted carrying case.
The binoculars are marked “MADE IN FRANCE” on the central bridge and feature a traditional early-style construction with:
- Black leather-covered barrels
- Central focusing wheel
- Flared eyepieces
- Black lacquered metal body
- Compact theatre / opera-glass format
- Original fitted carrying case with strap
They were most likely made in France during the late 19th to early 20th century, approximately c.1890–1920.
Condition:
The binoculars show general age-related cosmetic wear, including small marks, rubbing and minor losses to the black finish, particularly around exposed edges and fittings.
All optics are intact and clean, and the binoculars achieve clear images for their age.
The leather body coverings remain complete and show normal wear consistent with age.
The central focusing mechanism works as intended.
The original fitted carrying case is included and shows age-related wear, scuffing, edge wear and deterioration to the strap and fastening areas.
