Description
A pair of vintage Dollond London “The Owla” 8×40 binoculars, supplied with a brown leather Dollond & Aitchison Opticians carry case.
The binoculars are marked:
THE OWLA 8×40
DOLLOND LONDON No. 31621
These are classic Porro-prism field binoculars with central focusing and eyepiece adjustment. The optics are intact and the binoculars achieve reasonably clear images for their age.
Cosmetically, the binoculars show normal vintage wear, including paint loss, rubbing and light scuffs around the eyepiece barrels, objective rims and body edges. The black textured body covering is intact and gives a nice vintage appearance. The leather neck strap is attached but shows age-related wear.
The brown leather case is included and is marked Dollond & Aitchison Opticians, Estd. 1750 inside. The case has a purple interior lining and shows surface scratches, scuffs, creasing and general age/storage wear, but remains a very attractive accessory for the binoculars.
Please see all photos for the exact cosmetic condition and what is included.

The eyepieces, objective lenses, and some of the internal lenses beneath them, where accessible, have been lightly cleaned. There is still a dark shadow visible on one lens, but this can only be seen when looking into the binoculars from the objective lens side. It is not visible when viewing through the binoculars in the normal way and does not appear to affect their performance.
Each eyepiece component is made up of a set of lenses. This eyepiece assembly has not been opened for cleaning. Performance could potentially be improved further if the entire eyepiece component were opened and cleaned.
