A pair of very rare antique German pre-WWI  C.P. Goerz Berlin Trieder Binocle 6x military binoculars with leather case. Good working condition.

This is an early example of German military prism binoculars. The triangular aluminium barrels have rounded edges and are covered with brown leather. It is engraved “C.P.GOERZ BERLIN” on the front face of the left barrel, and “TRIEDER BINOCLE” with a triangular prism figure on the front face of the right barrel. “6x”, “Germany” and serial number “5585” are engraved on the bridges connecting the barrels.

The binoculars lenses and prisms have been cleaned where accessible and they are in collimation. The binoculars give reasonably clear images for their age.

Wear and tear to the binoculars body appropriate with age and use. The left eyecup is a replacement with a slightly different colour. The leather case lid is detached, as shown in photos.

Note: For customers’ technical information, the prisms of the binoculars are held in places by the prism/barrel covers and each cover is fixed by three screws. The prism angle can be slightly varied by tightening or loosening these screws. This can be useful if the binoculars image is not ideal for both eyes. For example, you can slightly loosen one screw and tighten one or two other screws to see if the image can be improved.

There is also an image collimation screw on the right prism barrel near the top cover, and this screw can be slightly adjusted using a small flat screwdriver to balance images between two eyes, as shown in one of the pictures. This is for information purpose only as the binoculars image has been collimated to the best we can.
