- Extras: this microscope comes with a DSLR camera attachment set, as shown in the pictures. These include a metal (aluminium alloy) barrel which matches the size and shape of the microscope’s eyepiece tube, an extension adapter for the extension parts, and four extension barrels for image focus adjustment, with 15mm, 25mm, 35mm and 50mm in height.
Note:
- The silver metal adapter tube features a standard M42x0.75mm male thread, which is designed for direct connection to DSLR T-rings. Most modern DSLR T-rings come with 42mm female threads, allowing you to attach them directly to this tube without any additional adapters. One of the photos shows a Canon DSLR T-ring attached to the tube as an example (Canon T-ring is not included with this microscope). To use this setup with your own camera, you’ll need a T-ring compatible with your specific DSLR model – such as Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc. A range of DSLR T-rings is available from this Nipon Scope store.
- Additionally, the black extension barrels have a 38.5mm external thread at the end. If you wish to use an extension barrel for photographic purposes, you may require a 38.5mm female to 42mm male filter step-up ring. However, in most cases, the extension barrel is not necessary, as image focus can typically be achieved by adjusting the silver adapter tube within the microscope’s eyepiece holder, and by using the microscope’s own fine focus controls.
- The microscope’s lighting is provided by the built-in electric light source in the base underneath the condenser. The lighting system can be accessed from below, as shown in one of the photos. The current bulb appears to be the original type supplied with the microscope, but it may be possible to replace or upgrade it with a newer bulb, such as an LED. The light switch can sometimes be a little unresponsive, so it occasionally needs to be switched off and on again to keep the illumination stable.
- The wooden case shows signs of age and would benefit from some treatment or repainting.
