Antique brass Galilean field glasses / binoculars, dating approximately from the late Victorian to Edwardian period, circa 1890–1910.
A substantial pair of traditional field glasses constructed mainly in brass with a dark aged finish and central focusing mechanism.
The optics are intact and clean and the binoculars produce a good, clear image. The central focusing wheel operates correctly.
The binoculars show genuine age-related wear throughout, including rubbing, scratches, tarnishing and areas where the original dark finish has worn away to reveal the brass beneath. This gives them an attractive period patina.
No maker’s name or manufacturer’s mark has been found, so the exact maker and country of manufacture are unknown. The construction is typical of European Galilean field glasses produced around the turn of the 20th century.
