Description
An interesting and collectible pair of antique German C.P. Goerz Berlin FAGO Trieder Binocle prism binoculars, with 3½x magnification, dating from approximately 1900–1915.
Manufactured by the renowned German optical company C.P. Goerz of Berlin, these compact early prism binoculars feature black metal construction, textured leather-covered barrels, traditional flared eyepieces and a central focusing mechanism.
The left prism plate is marked “C.P. GOERZ BERLIN”, while the right prism plate is marked “3½x FAGO TRIEDER BINOCLE”.
The optics are intact without visible damage. The eyepieces and prism surfaces beneath them have been lightly cleaned. However, the internal surfaces of the objective lenses have not been cleaned due to the small retaining screws, so some internal dust or deposits may remain.
The binoculars produce usable images, although the optical performance should be considered consistent with an antique instrument of this age rather than modern binoculars.
Cosmetically, they are in good antique condition, showing age-related wear, scratches, rubbing and some loss of the black finish around the eyepieces and metal edges. The leather covering remains generally well preserved. An old cord neck strap is attached.
