Description
A lovely pair of antique French field binoculars, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, approximately c.1900–1920.
The left eyepiece barrel is marked “Bull-Dog”, while the right barrel bears the markings “Marone, IRIS de Paris, Qualité Garantie”.
These are an attractive pair of traditional field glasses with large 55mm objective lenses, 25mm eyepieces, black leather-covered barrels, dark metal fittings and a central focusing mechanism.
The optics are intact, and the internal lenses have been lightly cleaned. The central focusing wheel operates correctly.
Cosmetically, the binoculars are in genuine antique condition, showing age-related wear, rubbing, scratches, patina and some deterioration to the leather covering and original finish, as visible in the photographs.
The magnification is not marked but is estimated at approximately 3x–4x, typical of early Galilean field glasses of this style.
