Description
Antique brass opera / field glasses dating from around the late 19th to early 20th century, approximately c.1890–1910.
Traditional Galilean-style construction with brass barrels, black enamelled fittings and a central focusing wheel. The binoculars retain an attractive aged brass patina with considerable period wear, rubbing, tarnishing and areas of finish loss consistent with their age.
The optics are intact and clean, and the binoculars produce clear images. The central focusing mechanism operates as expected.
A leather neck cord is also attached.
No clear maker’s name or manufacturing mark has been identified, so the exact manufacturer cannot be confirmed. Based on the design and construction, they are likely French or continental European, dating from approximately 1890–1910.
