Description

An attractive pair of large antique Galilean-type field binoculars, probably of European manufacture, dating from the late Victorian to early 20th-century period, approximately c.1890–1920.

These binoculars feature unusually large 65mm objective lenses, black enamel-finished metal fittings, textured dark leather-covered barrels, traditional flared eyepieces and a central focusing wheel.

There are no visible manufacturer’s markings or magnification figures. Based on their construction and appearance, they are likely European, possibly French, British or German.

The optics are intact, and the internal lenses have been lightly cleaned. The binoculars achieve clear images.

The binoculars are also in good antique cosmetic condition overall, showing expected signs of age and use, including rubbing, scratches, small chips and losses to the black painted finish, particularly around the objective housings and barrel edges. The textured leather covering appears generally well preserved.
