Description

For sale is an antique pair of W. Watson & Sons Ltd London x6 binoculars, marked No.7267 and broad arrows, supplied with their original-style leather case and leather straps.

These are an interesting early pair of military field binoculars, likely of early 20th-century, with the classic individual eyepiece focusing arrangement. The binoculars are still usable for their age. The individual eyepiece focusing works well on both sides, and the binoculars produce a usable image.

The optics have no major chips or damage, but there is some light internal misting/haze on the lenses, which is common on binoculars of this age. They are therefore best appreciated as an antique, display, collector’s or restoration item, although they can still be used as they are.

Cosmetically, there are clear age-related signs of use, including paint loss, surface wear, scratches, marks and wear to the body covering, as shown in the photos. The leather case is included and has attractive age and patina, but there is damage to one bottom corner, which appears like a burn or heat-related mark. Given the age and style of the item, this may possibly relate to wartime use. The leather straps are also worn with age.
