Description
A scarce and desirable example of post-war German optical craftsmanship: Beck Kassel CBS Merkur 8×40 binoculars, complete with the original leather carry case and strap.
The CBS (Central Binocular System) range was produced in limited numbers and is significantly less common than mass-market German binoculars of the same era. The Merkur model sits at the higher end of the range, offering a bright 8× magnification paired with 40 mm objectives—an excellent balance for general observation, nature use, and collecting.

One eyecup appears to be missing from the top of an eyepiece; however, this does not affect the functionality or usability of the binoculars.
Beck Kassel was a respected but comparatively small German optical manufacturer operating in the mid-20th century. Unlike giants such as Zeiss, Beck Kassel produced binoculars in far lower volumes, making surviving models—particularly branded CBS Merkur—noticeably harder to find today.
