Description

This is an antique four-draw brass telescope signed George S. Woodman, a known British maker of optical and scientific instruments.

The telescope features a classic multi-draw brass construction with variable magnification between 25x and 35x. It has a pleasing aged patina, consistent with authentic Victorian-era manufacture. It extends smoothly and locks up well when fully drawn.

Length: 25.5cm (closed) – 82cm (extended)

Objective lens diameter: approx. 41mm

Main barrel diameter: 47mm

Weight: 910g

Variable magnification: from 25x to 35x (by adjusting the first draw section with markings)

Optical condition: Optics are intact. All internally accessible lenses have been carefully cleaned. The telescope produces good, clear images, especially impressive for its age.

Physical condition: Honest cosmetic wear and surface marks from age and use. Natural patina to the brass throughout, but no obvious dents to brass tubes. Movement of the draw tubes is smooth. Original leather case included, showing age-related wear but structurally sound. One end of the leather case is open, with the end cap missing.

The engraved name, construction style, and draw-tube markings are all consistent with Victorian British optical instruments of Late 19th century, approximately 1870s–1890s.

This is a genuine working antique, suitable for collectors, decorators, maritime enthusiasts, or period film/stage use.
