Description

This is a genuine antique brass draw telescope monocular, featuring a 3-draw (extendable) brass construction with a traditional straight-tube profile. The telescope displays attractive natural patina consistent with long use and age.

The telescope has been checked and produces a usable terrestrial image, appropriate for an original antique optical instrument of this period.

Believed to be of British manufacture (England), dating to the mid–late 19th century, based on design, materials, and construction.

Key Features:

  • Solid brass 3-draw construction
  • Classic collapsible (draw-tube) design
  • Traditional maritime / field telescope form
  • Unmarked, as commonly found on working telescopes of the era
  • Estimated period: Circa 1850–1890 (Mid to Late Victorian era)
  • Objective lens: 35 mm
  • Length: 200 mm (closed) – 580 mm (extended)
  • Main barrel diameter: 40 mm

Condition:

Optics are present and functional with no damage. Image clarity is reasonably good for the age. Internal lenses have been cleaned where accessible; however, some old age-related marks remain visible around the lens edge, primarily within the first draw tube. These do not affect image quality or viewing performance.

The brass tubes show honest antique condition throughout, with heavy patina, wear, and surface marks consistent with age and handling. The surface has not been modernly polished, preserving the original finish. Some minor age-related marks are also visible on the glass.
