Description
Antique brass 3-draw pocket telescope / spyglass, probably dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.
A nicely made compact telescope featuring a brass body with multiple extending draw tubes and a dark brown leather-covered grip section. The objective end is fitted with a removable brass lens cap, while the eyepiece has an adjustable/rotating cover.
The telescope extends to a substantial length while collapsing down to a much more compact size for carrying.
Optical condition:
All of the optics are intact and quite clean for their age. The telescope has been tested and achieves a clear image. There may naturally be minor dust or age-related marks within the optical system, but nothing significant was observed during testing.
Cosmetic condition:
The brass has developed an attractive aged patina, with some surface marks, tarnishing and general wear consistent with age and use. The leather grip remains present and shows some age-related wear, including small marks and areas of surface loss.
The brass draw tubes extend and retract smoothly.
No maker’s name or other identifying markings have been found, so the exact manufacturer and date are unknown. From its construction and style, it is believed to date approximately from c.1880–1920.
An attractive original antique optical instrument, suitable for a collection of telescopes, scientific instruments, maritime antiques or brassware.
