Maker & Historical Context:
This telescope is signed Lennie, Edinburgh, a known Scottish optical maker active during the mid-19th century. Edinburgh was a major centre of scientific instrument making during this period, supplying optics for maritime, military, and gentleman explorers.
Based on design, materials, and engraving style, this telescope dates to approximately circa 1840–1865.
Conditions: Lenses are clean, producing clear, sharp images. Focuses smoothly through full extension. A very pleasing viewing experience for its age.
Original brass draw tubes with natural age patina. Mahogany barrel in very good condition with attractive grain. All sections extend and retract correctly. Original brass objective dust cap included (as shown). Light cosmetic wear consistent with age; no structural damage.
