Description
This is a Royal Navy single-draw telescope, engraved to ‘Mr R W Middleton R N”, signed “Manuf’d by J. Hammersley, late Manufacturer to Ross” and retailed by “Fraser & Davis, 78 & 79 High Street, Portsmouth”.

Note: The cosmetic condition of this telescope is as expected for its age. The scope is in working condition with no dents on the metal tube or on leather cladding and no damage to the lenses. The eye lens and the lens inside the first draw have been cleaned.
However, the front objective lens has not been cleaned because the lens holder screw cannot be opened due to lack of adequate tool. There appears to be some stain between the two lenses of the objective lens unit. The image of this telescope could be much improved if its objective lens could also be cleaned. There are two marks on the edge of the lens metal holder ring which were left when attempting to unscrew the ring with a screwdriver (as shown in the last three pictures). Nevertheless, for this reason, this telescope is offered for sale with reduced price (was £129).
For customer information, like most vintage telescopes of this type, the magnification value is not marked on the telescope body. We have tried to compare this telescope with a spotting scope which has a zoom magnification. It looks that the images as viewed through both telescopes become similar as the magnification level of the spotting scope is adjusted to somewhere between 15x and 20x.
